2019 Jobs, PH Universities: Train Now For Digital Skills, Or We Teach Ourselves!

Today, Vocational is the New Normal, since for digital jobs, college degrees are no longer necessary. Look, Abigail Hess says she knows "The 10 Most In-Demand Skills Of 2019, According To LinkedIn" (06 January 2019, LinkedIn, linkedin.com):

The United States is currently experiencing one of the tightest labor markets in history and many say that the country is currently facing a skills gap. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the US currently has over 7 million unfilled jobs.

That's good news! At least a million of those unfilled US jobs are in effect for us Filipinos, because we Filipinos are the #1 prospects of Americans for their Virtual Assistances/Virtual Careers. That's just the United States prospects.

So, beyond 2019, for any VA/VC job, be prepared!

Let's look at Miss Abigail's 2-part list:

Soft skills:
5. Time Management
4. Adaptability
3. Collaboration
2. Persuasion
1. Creativity

Hard skills:
5. UX Design
4. People Management
3. Analytical Reasoning
2. Artificial Intelligence
1. Cloud Computing

"UX Design" means "User-Experience Design" – with Microsoft Word, I taught myself, from 1987; ergo, the more I know how to be better. If the universities don't teach, teach yourself!

Miss Abigail lists skills in the reverse order; so, Creativity is #1 among the Soft Skills. Thinking differently, I say:

Creativity should be a hard part of soft and hard skills!
Yes, Creativity is #1. That's how the Digital Age's creative genius Steve Jobs made Apple the most valuable company in the world.

How to be creative today?

1, Steve Jobs: Think Different.
2, Frank A Hilario:
Given X, think Y, then think Z.
Creativity is an asset that will make anyone stand out as a job seeker. So, as a teacher I urge PH schools  to teach any Hard Skill or Soft Skill but always to accompany it with lessons in Creativity.

For all individuals and institutions, I will now explain my genius formula for Creativity:

Given X, think Y, then think Z; here's the breakdown:

X is your problem, situation, conflict, book, brochure, article, paper, lecture, speech or whatever.

Y is the obvious next step, like given a report assignment, you think of the subject matter, and then decide on the specific topic. Then you do your research on your topic.

Z is anything but anything. Like, after thinking of presentation of facts: Introduction, Exposition, Analysis, Conclusion: Next, you jump to a Conclusion – yes, I really mean jump to Conclusion, even Confusion – then search for materials to help you prove that Conclusion. Then you'll come up with something new! That's creativity.

How do you apply Creativity to People Management for instance? That's where your X comes from. Now, your Y is to search for the ideas of management guru Peter Drucker. Your Z is something else; like, you come up with this plan:

Challenge your student team to pick & un-prove a management rule from Mr Drucker.

What happens is? Your student team will learn more about the ideas of Mr Drucker than they thought they should. Isn't that brilliant!517
