UP, Stop Behaving Like Tarzan And Let Me Help You!

The above image is my photograph taken 19 July 2016, painterized here for effect. Whenever Tarzan of Edgar Rice Burroughs jungle stories defeats a gorilla, he beats his breast. Here is my alma mater the University of the Philippines, UP, beating his breast on the news by Sofia Tomacruz that "Only UP Makes It To Top 100 Of QS Asian University Rankings For 2019" (25 October 2018, rappler.com). On this piece of news shared by Jerry R Yapo on Facebook today, Sunday, 13 January 2019, my comment is:

Something to be ashamed of, considering that the National University of Singapore is #1 and Seoul National University of South Korea is #10 in Asia and UP is nowhere to be found!

Understand. The 2019 Quacquarelli Symonds, QS, list features over 400 universities from 17 countries in Asia and adopts a methodology that consists of 11 indicators:

(1)  academic reputation (30%)
(2)  employer reputation (20%)
(3)  faculty-student ratio (10%)
(4)  international research network (10%)
(5)  citations per paper (10%)
(6)  papers per faculty (10%)
(7)  staff with a PhD (5%)
(8)  international faculty (2.5%)
(9)  international students (2.5%)
(10)  inbound exchange students (2.5%)
(11)  outbound exchange students (2.5%)

Considering all that, here's the latest of what I have to say:

Inside UP: I am an alumnus, UP '65, graduating with a weighted average of 2.36 pt. Not bad.

Outside UP: I am the #1 critic when it comes to overall performance of the UP System according to several global ranking bodies, one of them being QS.

"He has a right to criticize who has a heart to help" – American President Abraham Lincoln, Emancipator of the American Slaves. Now, to help emancipate UP from the slavery of non-world class technical publications, I have to criticize first!

In the Top 100 Asian Universities, from the Philippines UP is #72 and next, Ateneo de Manila University, is out of the 100 list, down at #115.

Now, where can I help? I am a technical editor with an ISI stamp of approval on my forehead, so to speak – I was the Editor in Chief who made an international publishing dream come true for the Philippine Journal of Crop Science, PJCS, published by the Crop Science Society of the Philippines: I made the PJCS world-class, that is, included in the elite international list of ISI (Web of Science/Web of Knowledge) that all previous editors of 25 years failed to accomplish. So: I can help UP improve its QS standing in 3 areas (total score of 30%):

#1, international research network (10%)
#2, citations per paper (10%)
#3, papers per faculty (10%).

Literally, I will help UP work things upward – as Author's Editor I will help UP:

(1)   authors write more world-class technical papers
(2)   thence, get more international citations per paper
(3)   thence, build a credible international research network.

To un/convince UP, on invitation I will conduct a 2-day weekend workshop at UP Diliman for an auditorium full of people on writing, editing and desktop publishing of scientific papers, with speed and quality. FREE!517
